Mrs. Sanford Speaking is a blog about education. It’s not only about educating myself but also about educating students in more effective ways. Finding the teaching practices that best suit the needs of today’s youth is what drives me. I am excited about – and dedicated to – always improving.
I’m continually seeking better ways of reaching kids and teaching them through new and innovative ways. This means I’m on a constant journey to educate myself and better my practices as a teacher. From student engagement and motivation, to grades and assessments to the multiple intelligences, I want to soak up as much information as possible. I am certainly no expert, but I’m eager to share my curiosity, my ideas, and my experiences with others who are interested in a more student-centered approach to education. This blog is meant to be a platform for sharing these insights, as well as a platform for collaboration.
My recent experience has been in working with students with LDs or alternative learning profiles. This includes anything from language based learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), attention deficit disorders, auditory processing disorder, severe academic anxiety, or anything else that inhibits learning in a “typical” classroom. In my opinion, it also pretty much includes every student because we all have a unique learning profile. I’d like to continue on this path of helping to serve children who are often left behind in the classroom, or inadvertently made to feel inferior based on their learning style or the pace at which they learn. I’d also like to spread knowledge and share information about these mild to moderate learning differences, and hopefully be a resource for families in need of guidance or support.
